Aisle O'var Backswording

We are scholars and practitioners of the Ancient and Noble Science of Defence and that most excellent of ancient country sports, English Country Backswording Circa 1600.

Our main focus is in the study of the single-handed broadsword/backsword and the English Quarterstaff/Tip staff using the principles of the true fight as laid down by George Silver in his Paradoxes of Defence in 1599 and his unpublished manuscript A brief instruction upon my paradoxes of defence and many other historical treatises for our studies of Historical European Martial Arts in order that we practise a complete martial system.

BT Melodians Steel Orchestra

The BT Melodians Steel Orchestra can rightly claim to represent the pinnacle of Steelpan music in the UK today. Lead by 'Steelpan Ambassador', Terry Noel, the BT Melodians Steel Orchestra performs all over the UK and abroad for high ranking dignitaries and public alike. Its professionalism and playing excellence have attracted numerous fans including such notable devotees as the Duke of Edinburgh.

The versatility of the orchestra's repertoire is recognised. It is the first steel orchestra to receive two Performing Rights Society Enterprise Awards, BT Innovation Awards and Her Majesty the Queen's Fortieth Anniversary Challenge Award.

We are delighted to welcome the orchestra for the first time to the Uffington White Horse Show and look forward to some real Caribbean Carnival music.

X-Treme Trials
The ‘X-Treme Motorcycle Stunt Trials Display Team’ was formed back in 1998 after the germ of an idea by two of Europe’s top young riders, Martin Crosswaite and Dan Clark. The display uses two of the world’s best stunt riders. It includes 15ft jumps up vertical walls, amazing ‘drop offs’, a full range of freestyle tricks, some of which can only be attempted by a handful of riders throughout the world, wheelies (back and front wheel!) plus other spectacular stunts which, combined with the showmanship and humour the show offers, will leave the audience in disbelief of what they have just witnessed.

Recent performances include Munich Bike Show, Tain Gala, The Suffolk Show, South East X-treme Sports Show, Xtreme Trials in Malta and The Great Yorkshire Bike Show.

Christian Moullec

Christian is trying to save a species of wild goose (the lesser white-fronted goose: anser erythropus), which is on the brink of becoming extinct.

He aims to do this using the method of the geese following a microlight. This goose used to breed in large numbers all over Lapland. Today there only about ten pairs left in this region. His objective is to use a group of four or five microlights followed each year by about one hundred fifty young geese bred artificially in Europe. Migrating birds always return to nest in the area where they have learnt to fly. The aim, therefore, is to achieve migration starting from Lapland leading the geese with the microlights to more favourable wintering areas in Holland.

Christian is bringing his microlight and geese to Uffington and visitors to the Show will have a rare opportunity to see them flying together in formation over the showground. This is a truly wonderful sight. For a foretaste take a look at the phototheque on his website: http://www.vol-avec-les-oies.com/oies.htm. As well as providing a fantastic spectacle for all lovers of the natural world, Christian's conservation work is a hugely important contribution to preserving the wildlife of our planet and we are delighted to welcome him to our Show.

Then trust the expert tuition of Gerald Mills and his team from Bampton Archery Club. All equipment provided.
