The 2009 Show
Although the 2009 Show was not as sunny as the weather forecasters predicted, we were fortunate to have a dry weekend - as well as a rain-free run up to the Show. Consequently the show ground and parking fields were in an excellent state. These favourable conditions, combined with a fantastic programme of attractions, meant that visitors flocked to the Show on both the Sunday and Monday. In fact we had the highest ever attendance on a Sunday in the Show’s thirty-eight year history, and the Monday figure was just as good, making a total of around 12,000 visitors over the weekend.

The high attendance made for a brilliant atmosphere on the showground and also hopefully a successful weekend for stallholders and exhibitors. It meant that the Show achieved its second best financial result ever with more than £40,000 being raised for the Show’s Charitable Trust, which supports local good causes such as the Village School, Church, Hall, Sports Club etc. Many village organisations also raised money in their own right, either by taking stands or by providing services needed to run the Show, such as car parking and litter picking.

The programme of events at the 2009 Show was reckoned by many to be one of the strongest ever. Visitors were entertained on both days by a spectacular display of synchronised wingwalking from Team Guinot. Another highlight was the elegant display of side saddle riding. Two brilliant, but very different, bands made their Uffington debuts at the 2009 Show: Star Rhapsody Steel Band and Southern Syncopaters Jazz Band. However, the attraction that had everybody talking was the appearance on Sunday by the world’s only flying Vulcan Bomber.

There was a huge variety of other attractions including country pursuits, sheepdog display, backswording, falconry, historic vehicles, craft stalls, Natural World Marquee, Heavy Horse Show (Sunday) and lots, lots more, which all helped to make this one of the best Shows ever.
