2006 Uffington Show Results

The 2006 Show was another huge success. We had nearly 15,000 visitors over the August Bank Holiday weekend, and more than £35,000 was raised for the White Horse Show Trust, which supports local charities and community organisations. Details of the organisations that have benefited from grants by the Trust can be found elsewhere on this website. Had it not been for a short spell of rain on the Monday morning, the 2006 Show might even have matched the phenomenonal results of 2005, our annus mirabilis.

The Barrow of Booze raffle raised enough money to provide a slap-up Christmas lunch for the village pensioners. Also, many other charities and local community groups, including St. Mary's Church, the Sports Club, the Junior Football Team and the Village Hall ran stalls or provided services to the Show such as car parking and litter picking to give a significant boost to their own finances.

Last year's Show featured some great new events. Richard Curtis, who has won prizes at Crufts, brought his highly entertaining K9 Dog Display. Another star arena attraction was the M.A.D. Mountain Bike Display Team, who amazed spectators with their awesome stunts. Many visitors particularly enjoyed the large collection of Morris Minors on show for the first time at Uffington. Our Natural World Marquee was further enhanced by the inclusion of Farms 2 Ewe and we added a Gun Dog Scurry to our Country pursuits.

As always, the beautiful Heavy Horses Show, a qualifying event for the West of England Championships, and the large array of historic vehicles proved very popular with visitors. There were also many interesting craft stalls, offering a magnificent range of handiwork, food, plants and all manner of other things. Our 'Countryside and Family Fun' theme was represented in lots of other ways including falconry, gundogs, country pursuits, kite flying, ferret racing, morris dancing and the inimitable Professor Crump. Visitors who preferred to relax with a drink in the beer tent were able to enjoy an excellent programme of music by Wantage Silver Band.

Overall the 2006 Uffington White Horse Show was one of the best on record. Arrangements for the 2007 Show on August Bank Holiday (26 & 27 August) are now at an advanced stage. Follow developments on this website.
